Many of them are dead, while some are still alive.
Below are the top five African legends you need to know;
1. Fela Kuti: Fela Kuti with full name Fela Anikulapo Kuti was equally known as Abami Eda.
Fela Kuti is the pioneer of Afrobeat.
Fela was a multi-instrumentalist, composer, bandleader, Pan-Africanist and a political activist.
Unfortunately he is dead.
2. Miriam Makeba: The South African singer was fondly called Mama Africa.
She fought against the ideology of apartheid, white-minority leadership in South Africa.
She sang about injustice which helped her acquired legendary status for her works.
In November 2008, she was confirmed dead.
3. Angelique Kidjo: Angelique Kidjo is a singer, songwriter and activist. She hails from Benin Republic. Also she has won two Grammy awards.
Kidjo is known for her musical diversity as well as video creativity.
In 2021, Times named her among 100 most influential people.
4. Lucky Dube: He was a Rastafarian, Reggae musician. Until his death he was from South Africa.
His music was and is still an inspiration to many across the world.
5. King Sunny Ade: Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye makes Afro-Juju music. He is a royal Yoruba man.
King Sunny Ade is regarded as one of the most influential musicians in the Afro-Pop music world.
